Doctorate in Family Nurse Practice
ANCC Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner
DAISY Award Recipient – 2024
Dr. Bancy Mwangi is a compassionate and resilient healthcare professional with more than 15 years of experience in nursing and pain management. Her clinical background spans both hospital and outpatient settings, where she has treated a wide range of conditions including musculoskeletal pain, cancer-related pain, neuropathic disorders, chronic injuries, arthritis, postoperative pain, migraines, headaches, and complex regional pain syndrome. She is board certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and earned her Doctorate in Family Nurse Practice from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana.
Her professional commitment to pain management was shaped by personal experience. In 2021, Dr. Mwangi was diagnosed with a brain tumor requiring a craniotomy, and later lost total vision in her right eye. Living through severe and life-altering pain deepened her understanding of the physical and emotional burden patients carry. That experience solidified her dedication to helping individuals with chronic, debilitating pain regain function, restore independence, and pursue their full potential.
Born and raised in Nyahururu, Kenya, Dr. Mwangi was known as a national ping pong player before immigrating to the United States in 2009. She is trilingual in Kikuyu, Swahili, and English. Her healthcare journey began as a Certified Nursing Assistant and progressed through LVN, RN, and BSN roles before achieving her doctorate. Her path reflects perseverance, discipline, and an unwavering belief in growth through adversity.
Her passion for nursing began in childhood after losing her father to illness. As a young girl, she often felt powerless in the face of complex medical terminology and unequal access to care. That early experience ignited her desire to become a provider who listens carefully, explains clearly, and advocates fiercely for her patients. She remains inspired by her father’s words: “Sky’s the limit. You can be anyone you want to be if you put forth the effort.”
In 2024, Dr. Mwangi was honored as a DAISY Award recipient, recognizing her clinical excellence, compassion, and commitment to patient-centered care. Her long-term professional mission extends beyond pain relief—she is deeply committed to addressing inequities in healthcare and expanding access to essential services that reduce disparities in health outcomes.
Dr. Mwangi credits her strength and perseverance to her family—especially her mother, whom she calls her “Iron Lady,” and her three children, who have supported her academic and professional journey. Guided by faith, resilience, and gratitude, she continues to practice with compassion and selflessness.
Her philosophy remains simple yet powerful:
Changing one life at a time.
